Waking to the sound of the sun

Do you hear, feel and see the dawning of a new day when the Sun touches you in the morning. There are so many times I wake up and feel that the sun herself stood over me and opened my curtains. It is with much resistance that I get up early in the morning. But I have learned that when I do, my day is clearer. I hear more and see more. I even think more clearly.
Here is a poem I wrote one early morning while looking out of my bedroom window....... That night I remember dreaming about the sun. Do you hear what I hear?

As I sit here and ponder the cries of yesterday
I realize that my demise has simply slipped away

The sun woke me this morning with a smile upon her face
peeking in my eyes with rays of tenderness and grace

As her warmth wrapped ‘round me I lost all sense of time
She drew me forth with inner strength and I began to rise

She sat me at her clouded table and I opened up my eyes
She then pulled back the tablecloth for me to realize

Her silent understanding stood and touched my cheek
I afraid to open up my eyes, decided, to take a peek

Gazing down upon the land that I call my home
saw tiny specks of remnants of things I thought I owned

I dropped my hands and my mouth, amazement gripped my heart
But my sure sun stopped me, before the fear could start

She tapped my shoulder with brighter ray
And Said “See your problems from this perspective, if only for a day’

Awaking from sedated sleep, sun still on my face
I looked at her with awe again marveling at her grace

Then my day began, a fitful storm in sight
When my friend tapped me again and helped me remember right

I pulled back the clouded cloth that had surrounded me and
suddenly without warning I could clearly see

My problem or just a remnant of something passing nigh
like flashing fitful clouds then suddenly, clear sky

THIS TOO SHALL PASS
problems greet us with different levels of intensity
how we overcome is often how we see
this too shall pass..............................

Cloudy Days Make Me think

Living in Michigan it feels like we lose the sun after Christmas only to find it again in the Spring. The days are short and the clouds are plentiful. Sometimes it can cause you to feel dreary but on other days "these are the days when you sit at home and look out of the window" and think. It seems that the clouds are always saying something if you really listen. They feel peaceful and they encourage happy dreams. Share with me your thoughts on those days when all you do is dream.............

Look for the smile in the cloud

Gray clouds call
drifting whispering hello’s of yesterday
some of darkened days
others of open fun
many mingled, both soft and sad
hello sweet clouds
let me swallow the savory
sweet drops of yesterdays smiles.
yes gray clouds keep calling
I’m coming
draw closer
I feel your tears
feel mine
Gray clouds I call you
as you call me, gently, whispering
now goodbye
I feel your ginger touch as tears
fall from my eyes

Have you ever loved and wondered????????

In life it seems that nature, that is human nature has a funny side to it. I remember being in love or like or lust whichever one you want to call it. After years of waiting I finally felt like it was my time to shine. I was "ugly Betty" or for those of you who don't watch very much TV I was the "ugly duckling". On this day though, I was the swan. I had the fine man or at least I thought I did...........

I wrote this poem because it seemed that I was caught in the middle and I just didn't know what to do.

Don't let the smooth taste fool ya

stinky words
bitter hellos
nauseating glances
butcher knife eyes
peppery personality
Maybe its just me
Oh maybe its me
spicy eyes, edible lips
crunchy conversations
tasty glances
perfumed personality
and chocolaty smiles
maybe its just me
Oh Maybe its just me

The storms of life cause us to forget........................

This is a piece I wrote after reading "The Old Man and The Sea". It is an old classic but it left me with a feeling so strong it inspired me to write this. From the book one point I want to remember. Never become so caught up that you forget to live. Og Mandino says, in his book "The Greatest Salesman in the World"
To live each day as if it were your last......................

When Billows Blow

The clouds creep forward with sagging hips, frowned and full with attitude, their pressures push back the sun, and swallows up sweet savvy sky. A witness, on his bite sized boat prepares for this bitter symphony. Then the winds begin their crass obloquy smacking his face with every taciturn word. The waters then snatched from their sleep erupt with violent exasperation, flinging his bite sized boat from the comfort of its bed. Holding on to hope, clutching at desperation, the winds now a carnivorous adversary pushed him toward the arms of an angry sea. The clouds respond spitting rain with phosphorous energy. Beaten, and crushed, hours past his position does not change. This stormy obloquy does not change. The rain would not stop beating him. The wind would not relent its push. The waters only reached forth to satirically help him end his pain. He cried out, each muscle cramped, his face contorted with pain. His fingers numbed by bleakness one by one slowly began to let go....................
The clouds cascaded like puffs of smoke, calmly now, crawl on, free and full of capriciousness light up the midnight sky. A witness on his bite-sized boat, face caressed by wind. Now gently whispering sweet nothings in his ear. The waters, now cradle rocking his beaten brow, the rain only a refreshing mist covers this battered child. The moon slipped in a word of porous warmth and cheer. Hope and grace still stand by watching wind revive their friend. His eyes filled with glassy thanks, His heart full with tears, His mind filled with a memory, his spirit filled with cheer................................................
Peace......A luxury so often forgotten.

2008 The Year of New Beginnings

In the Bible, numbers are very important. They have various meanings and the symbolism touches the lives of many. Last year was 2007. The scriptures teach that 7 is the number of completion. We also understand that 2007 hosted huge trials and drama for many of us. HOWEVER, 2008 is here and we have crossed into a new era. Biblically, the number 8 means new beginnings. I find it awesome to believe that this is a year of new beginnings. I encourage you to start fresh and to not look back. Cut off the old ties that may burden your mind and your heart. SHAKE IT OFF!!!! It's a new day. It's a new season and its your time. 2008 a year of new beginnings! What's next?

Peace.........when you are not looking

"And the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will keep your heart and mind...."
Find God, Speak to Him and He will speak to you. What is peace? Can I tell you what it is and when you are experiencing it? No! I can give you a definition of a word but I can't give you an experience. I can however, offer you things that foster these; dare I say "emotions" or states of existence. How do you know when you have found tranquility?

Last year I was on a cruise. I stood on the top deck with nothing but blue sky and water as far as the eye could see. In the background there was a soft sloshing of the ship slicing through the water. The sun was a yellow egg yolk set in a clear brilliant blue back-drop with cloudy white wisps. A salty breeze brushed my cheek. My mind was mesmerized by the beauty of the moment. I sat and just listened to nothing in particular. I enjoyed being plugged into the realness of nature. For me, this is a description of peace. It is also what I call a "quiet affirmation" because it exists whether you look for it or not. It's up to you to find it, hear it, and understand it; hence, why they are referred to as quiet affirmations. I think of these enlightened experiences as God's uncanny sense of creativity.

My charge to you is to discover these natural occurrences in your daily lives. Through nature you can find peace, encouragement, joy and rays of hope.
Share them with me.... I would love to hear about your journey to find your Quiet Affirmation

He will keep you in perfect peace if your mind stays focused on the Lord and all that He represents..... Isa 26:3
